Elon Musk has taken a jab at President Donald Trump’s senior trade adviser Peter Navarro, calling him a “moron” on social media. The Tesla CEO further split from the White House’s tariffs plan in response to a CNBC interview with Navarro.
Navarro discussed how Tesla’s position as a car assembler rather than a car manufacturer could be at odds with Trump’s tariff policies during his Monday interview. Musk disagrees, claiming Tesla has the most American-made cars and that Navarro is “dumber than a sack of bricks.”
Musk also criticized Navarro’s PhD from Harvard, saying it’s a “bad thing” and that he hasn’t “built sh*t.” However, Navarro dismissed concerns over their clash, saying everything is good between them.
The White House is shrugging off Musk’s comments, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stating that the president has people with diverse opinions on trade and tariffs. This marks one of the more significant differences in perspective between Trump and his biggest booster, Musk.
