Musk Criticizes Altman’s Stargate Project Funding

Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman are at odds over the massive infrastructure project known as Stargate. Announced during a White House press conference, Stargate aims to funnel $500 billion from investors into data centers to support OpenAI’s AI workloads.

The project has received initial funding commitments of $100 billion, with SoftBank and Middle East AI fund MGX investing. However, Musk claims that Stargate doesn’t have the required funds, stating that SoftBank has less than $10 billion secured.

Musk’s criticism comes as he faces his own lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing them of anticompetitive practices. Altman responded to Musk’s allegations by saying “Wrong, as you surely know” and emphasizing the benefits of Stargate for the country.

The dispute highlights the competition between xAI, Musk’s AI company, and OpenAI. xAI is currently embroiled in a lawsuit with OpenAI over anticompetitive practices. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella declined to comment on the matter during an interview at the World Economic Forum, instead focusing on his own investment pledge.

The Stargate project has sparked debate about its funding and potential impact on the AI industry. As the dispute between Musk and Altman continues, it remains to be seen how the project will proceed.
