Elon Musk claims that humans with his company Neuralink’s brain chip installed will be able to outperform professional gamers within two years. He also believes that Neuralink needs to speed up human brains so AI doesn’t get “bored.” Musk wants to increase the “output rate” of humans, which is how fast our brain sends signals to the chip, potentially going three to six times faster.
Musk suggests uploading memories, allowing people to retain their memories even after death. He also believes Neuralink could one day solve schizophrenia and enable blind people to see by directly triggering neurons in the visual cortex.
Neuralink’s current focus is on medical benefits, such as curing certain conditions that current medicine cannot treat. Musk says they’re aiming to give people with spinal cord injuries or complete blindness a way to communicate at a rate exceeding normal humans. He even mentions giving people “superpowers.”
It’s worth noting that Neuralink has great potential for medical advancement, but the science fiction aspects of the technology are what really get Musk excited.
