Musk Threatens Lawsuit Over Apple’s App Store Treatment of Competitors

Elon Musk accused Apple of giving preferential treatment to OpenAI’s chatbot, ChatGPT, claiming an “unequivocal antitrust violation.” This comes after a recent partnership between Apple and OpenAI. Musk, who runs a competing AI company xAI, released his own chatbot, Grok, but claims Apple is favoring OpenAI instead.

Musk posted on social media that Apple’s App Store should feature both his app and Grok, saying it was “playing politics.” He later stated that Apple’s actions make it impossible for other AI companies to reach the top spot in the App Store. Musk threatened to take immediate legal action against Apple.

This is not the first time Musk has clashed with Apple over perceived injustices. In 2022, he criticized Apple for threatening to remove his social media app from the App Store due to relaxed content moderation rules. The two parties later clarified their misunderstanding.

Musk co-founded OpenAI but left in 2018 after disagreements with other co-founders. He previously sued OpenAI over contract breaches and is currently suing the company for copyright infringement, which they have denied.
