Musk to Step Down from Cost-Cutting Role in May After Achieving $1 Trillion Savings Goal

Elon Musk plans to step down from his role as a cost-cutting expert at the end of May, after reducing the US deficit by $1 trillion. The tech billionaire said he is confident that his team can achieve this goal in just 130 days, with daily savings averaging around $4 billion. Musk’s tenure, which began in January, has seen significant reductions in federal spending and layoffs, including the closure of major agencies such as USAID and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Musk expressed confidence that his efforts would not affect critical government services, despite concerns over efficiency and waste. “The government is not efficient, and there is a lot of waste and fraud,” he said. Musk’s team estimates it has saved US taxpayers $115 billion to date through various measures, including workforce reductions, asset sales, and contract cancellations.

However, Musk’s role has drawn criticism, with protests and lawsuits accusing DOGE of acting without legal authority and violating privacy laws. Despite this, Musk remains committed to his mission, stating that the US will become “solvent” if his goals are achieved.

As Musk prepares to step down, his efforts have sparked debate over the impact of cost-cutting measures on the government’s ability to provide essential services.
