Musk vs Trump: Billionaire’s Vague Deportation Threats Spark Growing Concern

Elon Musk’s social media fight with President Trump over the budget bill has escalated, with Trump threatening to pull government contracts from Musk’s companies and even hinting at deporting the world’s richest man from the US. The tension between the two could have significant consequences, potentially setting the stage for a larger showdown in 2026 or 2028.

Musk previously called the legislation “utterly insane and destructive” and vowed to unseat Congressional leaders who voted in favor of it. He also announced plans to launch a third political party if the bill passes, sparking Trump’s response with threats against his business interests and personal life.

Despite the escalating rhetoric, Musk has refrained from further direct attacks on Trump, but continues to signal support for the American Party and retweeting opposition to the budget bill. His poll asking about creating a new party received over 750,000 votes, with two-thirds of his followers in favor.

The latest dust-up between Musk and Trump comes after Musk expressed frustration with the political process, likening it to trying to clean up a beach while facing a tsunami of AI. Musk’s efforts to influence politics have been met with declining popularity, and investors are taking notice, with Tesla shares falling nearly 8.5 percent since June 3.

A third party has never managed to gain traction in major US elections, but Musk’s divisive personality raises questions about his suitability as its face. The real test of Musk’s remaining political capital may come next year, when he plans to support Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky), who opposed the budget bill and is a target for Trump’s wrath.
