A recent poll shows that only 35% of Americans approve of Elon Musk’s handling of the Department of Government Efficiency, while 57% disapprove. This increase in disapproval is partly due to concerns about sweeping cuts to the federal government. In fact, a majority of respondents believe waste in the federal government has either stayed the same or increased under President Trump.
The poll also reveals that Americans are divided on fraud, with 34% saying it has increased and 32% saying it has decreased. However, most people oppose the president’s plan to shut down the Department of Education (66%) and cuts to federal funding for medical research (77%).
Musk himself has become less popular across nearly all demographics, including independents, adults under 30, and people without college degrees. His support rating remains lower than President Trump’s.
The survey of 2,464 adults between April 18-22 has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
