Mysterious Radio Pulses Defy Understanding of Particle Physics

A cosmic particle detector in Antarctica has detected a series of unusual radio signals that challenge our current understanding of physics. The Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) experiment, which uses balloons to detect radio waves from cosmic rays hitting the atmosphere, picked up strange pulses coming from below the horizon.

These signals are unlike anything previously explained by science and may indicate new types of particles or interactions. According to a research group including scientists from Penn State, the detection is intriguing and warrants further investigation. The results were published in the journal Physical Review Letters.
