However, just hours after the storm passed, a bright white streak appeared in the southwestern sky, leaving observers wondering what it was. Initially thought to be STEVE, a rare band of light caused by space weather events, the mysterious streak turned out to be a rocket launch from China. The Zhuque-2E methane-fueled rocket was preparing for reentry when its upper stage passed over the US, causing the white streak as it released fuel at an altitude of 155 miles.
