NAACP Lists Companies Backing Diversity Programs Amid Conservative Pressure

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has published a spending guide that recommends Black Americans steer their buying power towards companies that have not pulled back from diversity, equity, and inclusion programs under conservative pressure. The list includes brands such as Lowe’s, Target, Walmart, Amazon, Meta, McDonald’s, and Tractor Supply, which have reversed or eliminated DEI initiatives.

In contrast, the NAACP praises companies like Costco, Apple, Ben & Jerry’s, Delta Airlines, e.l.f. Cosmetics, and JPMorgan Chase & Co., which have stood by their previous commitments to diversity and inclusion.

The guide aims to provide a framework for Black communities to make informed decisions about where to spend their money. The NAACP believes that DEI initiatives promote the social and economic advancement of Black Americans, who are projected to consume nearly $2 trillion in goods and services by 2030.

This move comes amid a backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion policies from the Trump administration and Republican-led state governments. The NAACP’s efforts join other lawsuits challenging DEI practices in the private sector, including a recent suit filed by Comcast against the Federal Communications Commission over its DEI policies.
