This week, we can spot four of the five naked-eye planets (Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) as Mercury remains hidden. The Moon, at 2.4 days old, appears as a Waxing Crescent, lighting up less than 6% of its surface above London on 31 January at 6:45pm GMT. Venus, now in Pisces, is easiest to see, while Saturn lies in Aquarius near the Moon. Jupiter shines higher in Taurus, and Mars (not visible due to proximity to the Sun) rests further south-east in Gemini. Connecting these points reveals the ecliptic path, passing through zodiacal constellations like Taurus, Gemini, Pisces, Aquarius, and more.
