NASA has delayed the return of its Crew-10 mission to Earth due to high winds forecasted for the splashdown locations off the coast of California. The Crew Dragon spacecraft, named Endurance, was initially scheduled to undock from the International Space Station (ISS) on Friday at 6:05 p.m. EDT and splash down 17.5 hours later.
SpaceX has now pushed back its plan to a no earlier than date of 6:05 p.m. EDT on Friday. The Crew-10 astronauts will head home to Earth on Friday, with the stream starting at 3:45 p.m. EDT for the closing of the hatches between Endurance and the ISS.
However, coverage will resume only when weather conditions allow, as NASA may need to adjust the departure date if bad weather crops up in the splashdown zone. The crew’s replacements from SpaceX’s Crew-11 mission have already arrived at the ISS, awaiting their turn to return to Earth.
The Crew-10 quartet is set to return with a farewell ceremony behind them, having spent four months on the ISS. NASA will hold a post-landing press conference on Saturday if all goes to plan, but this may be affected by weather conditions.
