NASA astronaut Don Pettit, 70, said weightlessness made him feel decades younger after returning from a seven-month mission at the International Space Station. Pettit’s latest journey marked his fourth trip to space and his 70th birthday. In space, he experienced little to no pain, unlike on Earth where everyday aches and pains return upon landing.
During his time in space, Pettit focused on astrophotography and conducted physics experiments, such as blowing and stacking bubbles. He also made videos of comets and satellites streaking across the sky, which he plans to share with others. With his experience, Pettit says he still feels “like a little kid inside” and is eager for another flight in the future.
Pettit’s journey marks the oldest full-time astronaut to return from space, surpassing NASA’s previous record holder, John Glenn, who flew at 77 years old in 1998.
