NASA Astronauts Celebrate Christmas in Space with Santa Hats

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are currently stranded at the International Space Station (ISS) due to a Starliner spacecraft malfunction, sparking conspiracy theories about how they knew they’d have a prolonged stay. However, NASA has set the record straight.

The video posted by the US space agency showed Williams wearing a red t-shirt with Santa hats, while her colleagues wore matching caps. Social media users questioned how the astronauts had Christmas decorations and gifts on board when their original 8-day mission was supposed to be much shorter.

According to NASA, the Santa hats, Christmas tree, and other decorations were part of a three-ton SpaceX delivery in November, which also included Christmas meals and scientific items. The ISS is replenished with supplies several times a year, so it’s not surprising that Williams and her crewmates would have some festive cheer on board.

In a video shared by NASA, Williams and her colleagues talked about their Christmas plans, saying they were excited to spend the holiday with their “family” on the ISS. They also discussed the things they like about Christmas, including preparation and anticipation. With a new return date of March, the astronauts are making the most of their extended stay in space.
