NASA astronauts Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore returned from their extended 278-day mission to the International Space Station after their spacecraft malfunctioned. Despite spending nine months in space, they received no overtime pay or holiday allowances. The incidentals allowance for travel is $5 per day, which added only about $1,430 to their annual salary of around $152,258. Astronaut Clayton Anderson shared his experience, stating he received a similar amount when he spent 152 days on the ISS in 2007 and wished for mileage reimbursement instead.
