NASA Boeing Set for Starliner Flight in Late 2024 or Early 2026

NASA is moving forward with certifying Boeing’s CST-100 Starliner spacecraft for crewed flights, with its next mission expected to launch later this year or early 2026. The agency is working with Boeing to resolve a system fault that caused the inaugural eight-day crewed mission to extend into a nine-month stay in space.

The issue was found in the propulsion system, which forced NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams back on Earth earlier this month after they returned in SpaceX’s Dragon capsule. Joint teams are conducting test campaigns and analyses throughout the spring and summer to finalize the scope and timelines for resolving the problem.

According to Steve Stich, manager of NASA’s Commercial Crew Program, the next flight is likely to take place in late 2024 or early 2025. The development of the Starliner has been costly, with Boeing spending over $2 billion on the project so far.
