Happy Earth Day! On April 22, traditionally known as Earth Day, people around the world take time to appreciate their planet’s beauty and bounty. The occasion was first founded in 1970 by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, who encouraged Americans to come together to raise awareness about environmental issues.
To commemorate Earth Day 2025, NASA has launched a special page where participants can download this year’s inspiring poster and see their name written out in letters using actual Landsat satellite images. This unique activity showcases the power of space technology in understanding our planet.
“NASA Science delivers every second of every day for the benefit of all,” said Nicky Fox, associate administrator at NASA Headquarters. “Our satellites, Mars rovers, astronauts, and other missions send back stunning images of Earth to help us better understand our home.”
For over six decades, NASA has been monitoring Earth from space using advanced technology. The agency’s satellites, Mars rovers, and astronauts provide detailed images of the planet, from tiny plankton to the pale blue dot.
As we celebrate Earth Day, let’s appreciate the beauty and importance of our planet. With innovative technologies like those showcased by NASA, we can better understand and protect our home for future generations.
