The US House Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee held a hearing today, but NASA declined to participate. Key lawmakers expressed their disappointment and frustrations.
Rep. Valerie Foushee (D-NC), the ranking member of the House Science Committee’s space subcommittee, said she wished NASA had testified so she could ask them directly about their plans.
India put an aircraft on the far side of the Moon for less than $100 million, according to Rep. Rich McCormick (R-GA). This compares to the estimated costs of future US lunar missions.
In a statement, Rep. George Whitesides (D-CA), former NASA Chief of Staff, urged the workforce to stay focused and supported, saying “people are scared”. The lawmakers expressed interest in maintaining a capable workforce that can conduct its mission without being fearful.
