NASA to Discuss Moon Mission and CLPS Initiative

NASA will host a media teleconference on February 7 at 1 p.m. EST to discuss its science and technology missions flying aboard Intuitive Machines’ second lunar flight. The mission is part of the agency’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative, which aims to establish a long-term presence on the Moon.

The IM-2 mission will include demonstrations of resource utilization on the Moon, measuring potential volatiles or gases in the lunar soil. A passive Laser Retroreflector Array will also be deployed to provide a permanent reference point for future spacecraft.

Additionally, NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer spacecraft will launch as a rideshare and begin mapping the distribution of water on the Moon. The CLPS model invests in commercial delivery services to support industry growth and long-term lunar exploration.

The teleconference participants include Nicky Fox, Niki Werkheiser, and Trent Martin. Media must RSVP two hours prior to the briefing to participate by telephone.
