NASA has transported its Lunar Trailblazer spacecraft to Florida for launch preparations. The spacecraft was built by Lockheed Martin Space and will blast off from Kennedy Space Center using the agency’s powerful rocket system.
The mission, selected through NASA’s SIMPLEx program, allows for lower-cost science missions to share resources with primary missions. This approach enables NASA to test new technologies while managing costs.
Principal Investigator Bethany Ehlmann leads the Caltech team, which will also handle mission operations and scientific investigation. The mission aims to gather data using various instruments, including the LTM instrument developed by University of Oxford.
The Lunar Discovery Exploration Program manages the mission, with support from NASA’s Planetary Mission Program Office at Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. Lockheed Martin Space provides operational support under contract with Caltech.
