NASCAR Limits Entries for Open Teams in 2025 Charter Agreement Dispute

NASCAR has updated its rule book to prevent teams like 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports from missing races as open teams. The move comes after a preliminary injunction was revoked by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, allowing NASCAR to take charters away from the two teams.

To avoid a potential court-ordered return of their charters, NASCAR has introduced a new rule that allows it to limit entries for a race to 40. In such cases, open teams will be determined based on team owner points standings.

The revised rule ensures that 23XI and Front Row Motorsports cannot miss any races as open teams. Without charters, the two teams were only earning about one-third of what they could have been every weekend. This measure prevents NASCAR from having a reason to grant a temporary restraining order (TRO) that would give them their charters back.

The dispute between 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports is set to be heard in court on December 1st, with co-owner Denny Hamlin stating “all will be exposed” during the trial.
