Two NASCAR teams, 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports, have filed for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction to be recognized as chartered organizations for the remainder of 2025. The move comes after the teams rejected NASCAR’s proposal on charter extensions last September and instead filed an antitrust suit.
The teams are fighting for their six combined charters, which guarantee entry into every race and provide monetary rewards. If they lose, drivers will have to qualify on speed and receive a smaller percentage of the purse. They may also be required to refund money paid out through the first 20 races of the year.
NASCAR has accused the teams of filing an unnecessary lawsuit and claims it has made multiple requests for them to present a proposal to resolve the dispute. The organization remains focused on collaborating with the other 13 charter teams, which share its goal of delivering top-notch racing to fans.
Meanwhile, another team, Rick Ware Racing, is set to appear in court later Monday over a fight for a charter. Legacy Motor Club’s owner, seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, claims it had an agreement with RWR to lease one of its charters in 2026, while RWR disputes the timeline and already has a contract with RFK Racing to lease a charter next season.
