National Guard Deployment Blocked in Chicago

US Vice President JD Vance says his administration will continue to fight for deploying the National Guard in Chicago despite an appeals court blocking their efforts again. The Trump administration had wanted to send federalized National Guard members to Illinois and Oregon to control crime and protect agents, but leaders in these cities claim it’s not necessary.

A recent ruling by a US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit allowed federalized National Guard members to stay in Illinois but blocked deployment in Chicago. This decision follows previous judicial rulings that partially overturned an earlier order blocking deployment.

The city is preparing for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, which will draw over 53,000 runners and 1.7 million spectators. Organizers have assured there would be no disruption from immigration enforcement efforts, despite some concerns raised by social media posts and reports of clashes between protesters and federal agents.

Meanwhile, clashes continue in the city’s streets, with a journalist being detained by law enforcement agents on Friday. The administration has claimed that federal forces are necessary to control crime, but critics argue it’s an overreach of authority.
