Nationwide “Blackout Day” to Hit Retailers and Banks

A nationwide “blackout day” is set to take place on February 28, where Americans are being urged to boycott major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy. The event is part of a growing movement by the People’s Union USA, a grassroots organization that aims to promote economic resistance and improve government accountability.

The boycott is in response to several corporations rolling back their diversity, equity, and inclusion policies amid President Trump’s call to end federal DEI programs. On February 28, participants will refrain from making any in-store and online purchases from these retailers, as well as avoid using credit or debit cards.

However, spending on essential goods like food, medicine, bills, and emergency supplies is allowed during the blackout. The organization encourages shoppers to opt for local small businesses if necessary.

The People’s Union has also announced a 40-day Target boycott, dubbed “Target Fast,” which will start on March 5 – Ash Wednesday, and coincides with the 40 days of Lent. This initiative aims to oppose companies that are moving away from DEI initiatives. An Amazon boycott is scheduled for March 7-14, while a Walmart spending blackout will take place in April.

Additional no-spend days have been planned for March 28 and April 18. The boycotts are part of a growing movement pushing back against corporate policies that some see as discriminatory or exclusionary.
