A grassroots organization, The People’s Union, plans to hold a nationwide economic blackout on February 28 in response to the federal government’s rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
The protest, which starts at midnight, asks participants to refrain from making any purchases online or in-store. Major retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy are among those targeted, as well as fast food chains and gas stations. However, supporters are encouraged to support local businesses instead.
According to The People’s Union, the boycott aims to highlight the economic strength of communities affected by DEI rollbacks. Organizers claim that even a one-day disruption could send a powerful message to corporations and lawmakers.
The movement is gaining traction among supporters of DEI policies, although it remains unclear how much financial impact the protest will have on major companies.
