Germany scrambled two Eurofighter Typhoon jets from Romania after a large-scale missile and drone attack in Ukraine, with no Russian aircraft or projectiles crossing the NATO border. The deployment comes amid rising tensions as US President Donald Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Romania’s Ministry of Defense said the jets were deployed to monitor the air situation. Ukraine reported 93 drone strikes, including 62 intercepted by its Air Force, while also suffering damage from a glide bomb in Donetsk that injured three people. The Ukrainian President stated that the attacks are “demonstrative” and aim to put pressure on Russia to end its war.
The deployment of NATO jets follows high-level talks between Trump, Putin, and Zelenskyy, including a meeting at the White House. The discussion aims to secure strong security guarantees for Ukraine.
