NATO Ministers to Strengthen Alliance’s Defences

NATO foreign ministers will meet in Brussels on April 3-4 to plan for the upcoming summit in The Hague and address pressing security concerns. Secretary General Mark Rutte highlighted increased defense spending as a key priority, emphasizing its importance to the alliance’s future success. This comes ahead of Russia’s third anniversary of brutal actions in Bucha.

Rutte paid tribute to victims and survivors, commending Allied efforts to end the war justly and reaffirming NATO’s commitment to Ukraine with €20 billion in security assistance this year. He also acknowledged global threats, stating that a stronger, fairer, and more lethal NATO is needed to counter them.

Ministers will meet with Indo-Pacific partners on Thursday afternoon, including Ukraine’s foreign minister Andrii Sybiha, and the EU High Representative Kaja Kallas in the NATO-Ukraine Council.
