NATO scrambled F-16 jets amid Russia’s largest drone attack on Ukraine

Romania was forced to scramble its F-16 jets after a Russian drone attack, which is just half a mile from the country’s territory near the border with Ukraine. The Ministry of National Defense confirmed in a post on X that Russia carried out a massive drone attack on civilian infrastructure in Ismail, Ukraine.

The attack occurred on the night of August 5-6 and targeted oil and gas pipelines at the Orlivka plant in Odesa, Ukraine. Romanian authorities issued an RO-Alert warning the population in the north of Tulcea County via their emergency system.

Nearby Lithuania has also faced a similar threat after drones from Belarus crossed into its territory, according to Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys. He warned that repeated incidents are an alarming sign of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and NATO territory.

US President Donald Trump reportedly put pressure on Russian Special Envoy Steve Witkoff’s visit, saying he would impose sanctions on Russia if a deal is not reached by Friday. Despite this, Witkoff said the “dialogue will prevail” during his meeting at the Kremlin.
