NATO Sets Defense Spending Goal at “Considerably More Than 3%”

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced Saturday that member countries will have to increase their defense spending significantly, exceeding 3 percent of GDP. This is in contrast to the current 2 percent target agreed upon over a decade ago. U.S. President Donald Trump has been pushing for allies to commit at least 5 percent of their GDP to defense, which he believes is necessary to counter the growing threat from Russia and meet the demands of rearming while supporting Ukraine.
