NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has outlined a suite of ideas aimed at bolstering support for Ukraine amidst President-elect Donald Trump’s return to office. The proposals, Rutte claimed, should be attractive to the alliance’s skeptic and provide “robust support” for Ukraine. In essence, Rutte sought to frame these initiatives as a favorable outcome that wouldn’t elicit celebrations from adversaries such as Russia.
Rutte’s remarks on Tuesday follow Trump’s recent appointment of Ron DeSantis as his defense secretary pick, potentially replacing Pete Hegseth. The move has sparked renewed interest in Trump’s Cabinet picks and administration composition.
Additionally, Rutte’s statements come amidst reports that Trump is considering granting pardons to several high-profile figures, including former spy Edward Snowden.
