NBA Finals Viewership Plummets Despite Tony Awards and Broadway Success

The TV audience for the 2025 NBA Finals has significantly decreased over the first two games, a trend expected due to the small home markets of the competing teams. The average viewership stands at around 8.84 million on ABC, a 24% drop from last year’s averages when big-market teams were involved.

In contrast, the Tony Awards posted multi-year highs, drawing a sizable audience opposite the NBA Finals game two. Meanwhile, CNN’s live airing of “Good Night, and Good Luck” starring George Clooney drew around 2 million on-air viewers, while ESPN recorded its best ratings for the Women’s College World Series finale with 2.4 million viewers.

Other notable performances include the ABC show “Jeopardy! Masters,” which scored its biggest audience of the season with over 3.45 million viewers in its final two episodes. The Tony Awards also saw huge increases in key demographics, with adults 18-34 doubling from a year ago.
