Tyrese Haliburton was recently named the most overrated player in the NBA by a poll of 158 players, according to The Athletic. This comes as a surprise after he averaged 19.7 points and 10.2 assists with the Indiana Pacers last season, earning him two All-Star appearances.
The poll, which is conducted annually by The Athletic, saw Haliburton earn 14.4% of the vote, beating out Rudy Gobert and Trae Young. However, it’s unclear what led to the significant increase in votes this year, with some speculating that his decline in stats may have contributed.
On the other hand, Cade Cunningham was voted as the most underrated player, earning praise from his peers for a fantastic season that saw him average 26.1 points and 9.1 assists. Cunningham’s performance also led to his first All-Star appearance and helped turn around the Detroit Pistons’ fortunes.
Other notable players received praise in the poll, including Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who was voted as one of the top candidates for NBA MVP this season, while Victor Wembanyama was named the future face of the league by a significant majority of voters.
