NBC Gives Trump Campaign Time After Harris’ SNL Appearance

NBC has agreed to give former President Donald Trump’s campaign free commercial time in response to Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent appearance on Saturday Night Live. The move comes after FCC commissioner Brendan Carr criticized the sketch for breaching FCC regulations regarding equal time.

In the sketch, Rudolph portrayed Harris as seeking a pep talk from the real Harris. However, this timing raised concerns about compliance with the Equal Time rule, which requires stations to provide opposing candidates with comparable time and placement within seven days of an election day.

As a result, NBC has agreed to give Trump’s campaign 60 additional seconds of commercial time during Sunday Night Football coverage. The network also aired an unusual ad featuring Trump wearing a “Make America Great Again” baseball cap during the NASCAR playoff race on Sunday.

While it is unclear whether other campaigns have requested equal time, NBC must now find time for them if they do. The quick turnaround suggests that the network is moving swiftly to fulfill its obligations under FCC regulations.
