NC State-UNC Basketball Game Goes On Despite Snowstorm

Heavy snowfall is hitting the Triangle, but North Carolina State University (NC State) and the University of North Carolina (UNC) have found a way to proceed with their basketball game despite the weather conditions. The UNC men’s basketball team will play at the Smith Center on Wednesday night, with tip-off scheduled for 7 p.m.

To ensure fan safety, school officials are asking fans not to drive to the arena. Instead, they can walk up to the venue and take a seat if they have tickets. The arena will be open to “anyone who can safely walk” to the game.

UNC athletics director Bubba Cunningham emphasized the importance of safety, saying “We certainly want our fans here to cheer on our team — but more importantly, we want everyone to be safe.” Tickets holders will get priority seating, while fans without tickets will be allowed to attend from home and provide a great atmosphere.

The snowfall started hitting the Triangle just after noon on Wednesday, with forecasts predicting a wide range of totals across the region. The state has declared a state of emergency, urging residents to avoid traveling unless necessary.
