NCAA, High Schools Urged to Erase Transgender Athlete Records

The US Department of Education has asked the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and high school governing body National Federation of State High School Associations to remove records set by transgender athletes in female categories. The request is part of a new policy aimed at restricting competition for biological males who identify as female.

The NCAA recently changed its participation policy to restrict women’s sports to those assigned female at birth. This move comes after President Trump signed an executive order banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s and girls’ sports.

The request affects high-profile athletes like Lia Thomas, a transgender swimmer who won the national title in the 500-yard freestyle in 2022. The Department of Education claims that these records were “misappropriated” by biological males competing in female categories.

The NCAA has yet to comment on the request, while the National Federation of State High School Associations remains silent. The Department of Education is pushing for changes that would alter high school records across the country.
