NCL Salten Runs Aground Near Trondheim, Norway

A 135-meter-long container ship, NCL Salten, ran aground just seven meters from a cabin in Byneset, near Trondheim, Norway. The incident occurred when the vessel’s crew failed to detect a nearby rock formation and navigated smoothly along it.

The owners of the cabin were unaware of the ship’s presence until their neighbor alerted them. Johan Helberg woke up to find the giant ship outside his window after hearing a knock at his door from the next-door neighbor.

An investigation into the cause of the incident is underway, with authorities suspecting technical failure or human error as the likely causes. The 862 TEU feeder vessel was traveling at approximately 16 knots when it ran aground, resulting in no injuries to the crew but leaving the ship stranded.

Meanwhile, a Russian ship from Russia’s “shadow fleet” was spotted performing suspicious maneuvers near a power cable connecting Poland with Sweden. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has confirmed that an investigation is underway into possible explosive devices being planted on the ship.

Additionally, Russia has released a Greek-owned oil tanker detained in its waters, allowing it to resume its journey towards the Dutch port of Rotterdam.
