NCSoft Cancels Horizon MMO Project H After Global Partnership with Sony

NCSoft has reportedly canceled its highly anticipated Horizon MMO, codenamed Project H. The South Korean game developer had been working on the project in collaboration with Sony, but it appears that the partnership was not enough to keep the game alive.

According to reports, at least three projects have been canceled by NCSoft this year, including Project Pantera and Project J. The Horizon MMO was expected to be a significant addition to the company’s portfolio, but its cancellation marks a significant setback for gamers.

The Horizon series has sold over 32 million copies worldwide, with Horizon Forbidden West selling over 8.4 million copies alone. This success suggests that a well-executed MMO could have been a huge hit for NCSoft.

NCSoft had announced a global business partnership with Sony in late 2023, spearheaded by Jim Ryan and Taekjin Kim. The partnership was seen as a major coup for the company, but it appears that it may not have been enough to save Project H.

The cancellation of Project H comes after two live-service games were reportedly canceled at Bend Studio and Bluepoint last week. One of these games was a live-service God of War title, which suggests that NCSoft is undergoing significant changes in its game development strategy.

Despite the cancellation of Project H, NCSoft remains committed to developing Horizon Online, another Horizon project in development at Guerrilla Games. This title is expected to launch in 2025 and could potentially bring in up to one million players.
