NCsoft Cancels Unannounced Horizon MMO Amid Restructuring Efforts

NCsoft has halted development on its unannounced Horizon MMO, part of the company’s efforts to restructure and rebalance its portfolio. The game was previously expected to be a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the popular Horizon universe, developed for PC and mobile with a significant workforce.

However, according to South Korean outlet MTN, NCsoft has put the project on hold as part of a “feasibility review.” This means that instead of laying off staff, the developers will be reassigned to other projects. The news comes as NCsoft continues to face financial struggles, including declining mobile game sales and the underperformance of its Throne & Liberty title in South Korea.

Despite this setback, NC America has been actively hiring and bolstering its games with new additions, such as Blade & Soul NEO. The Western MMO division is expected to benefit from a recent organizational restructure, which includes a new CEO, Jeonghee Jin. Under his leadership, NC America aims to revitalize its games and attract more players.

NCsoft’s decision to cancel the Horizon MMO marks another significant development in the company’s ongoing effort to adapt to changing market conditions. As the gaming industry continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how this move will impact NCsoft’s future prospects.
