NCsoft’s Horizon Zero Dawn MMO in Jeopardy After Sony’s Live Service Cancellations

Sony’s recent cancellations of live service projects, including a God of War one from Bluepoint and an unknown project from Bend, may have far-reaching consequences for fellow developers. Reports suggest that NCsoft, the company behind the highly anticipated Horizon Zero Dawn MMO, is also facing uncertainty.

According to Korean publication MTN, NCsoft has put several games on hold due to a feasibility review, raising concerns about the future of these projects. The Horizon Zero Dawn MMO was long believed to be Project H, as confirmed by past reports and job listings from NCsoft employees.

NCsoft’s financial struggles have led co-chairman Kim Taek-jin to warn that if the company does not turn around in 2025, there will be no future for it. While it is unclear whether this is solely an NCsoft issue or related to Sony’s live service cancellations, it is worth noting that NCsoft has a separate live Horizon game in development from Guerilla Games.

The Horizon Zero Dawn MMO remains in limbo, with no clear indication of its fate. This project differs from the upcoming Horizon Online, which is a co-op game targeted at a younger audience and features cartoony graphics. Unlike the Horizon Zero Dawn MMO, there has been no reporting that Horizon Online has been cancelled.
