Chinese blockbuster Ne Zha 2 has shattered records, becoming the highest-grossing animated film of all time worldwide, surpassing Inside Out 2. The film now sits at No. 8 on the global chart. According to Maoyan, Ne Zha 2 generated $1.7 billion from home markets as of Thursday, bringing its total to RMB 12.47B ($1.72B) in China.
The projected final tally for Ne Zha 2 in China has been adjusted downward to RMB 15.1B ($2.08B), which would place the film at No. 5 on the all-time chart, surpassing Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Ne Zha 2’s success marks another milestone for Chinese films, with director Jiaozi achieving records for highest-grossing movie in a single market worldwide and the first non-Hollywood movie to reach $1B.
The film is expected to continue performing well, potentially reaching $2 billion in China and surpassing The Force Awakens’ global tally. With its extended run in Chinese cinemas until March 30, Ne Zha 2 remains a dominant force at the box office.
