Ne Zha 2 Sets Records in China with $7.2 Million Opening

Ne Zha 2, a fantasy epic from CMC Pictures, has broken records at the Chinese box office. The animated film opened to $7.2 million on 660 screens, taking the number five spot behind Captain America: Brave New World.

The movie follows Demon Orb Ne Zha and Spirit Orb Aobing as they team up to save their hometown from dragons in a thrilling adventure. Written and directed by Yang Yu, the film features a talented cast including Jiaming Zhang and Deshun Wang.

Ne Zha 2 has achieved an all-time record box office record during the Lunar New Year holiday, with over $1.5 billion in China alone, making it the second-biggest animated film in global box office history after Inside Out 2.

Other notable films include Becoming Led Zeppelin from Sony Pictures Classics, which grossed $1.8 million on 1,039 screens, and Armand from IFC Films, which has earned $66k in its second week. The Oscar contender A Complete Unknown starring Timothée Chalamet continues to perform well, crossing the $70 million mark.

A24’s The Brutalist is also on track to reach a significant amount, while SPC’s Oscar-contender I’m Still Here and Neon’s Anora round out the list of films with notable earnings.
