Netanyahu Faces Largest Protest in Half Year Over Security Reforms

Tens of thousands of Israelis gathered in Tel Aviv on Tuesday night for a massive protest against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, the most extreme in Israel’s history. The demonstration was sparked by Netanyahu’s efforts to replace the head of the Shin Bet security service and the attorney general with loyalists who will follow his orders.

Netanyahu views Turkey’s authoritarian President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as a model for his own leadership style. However, many Israelis see this move as a threat to democracy and the rule of law. The protesters are concerned that the new appointees will undermine Israel’s independent legal system and pave the way for authoritarianism in the country.

The protest was the largest in more than half a year, with demonstrators demanding greater transparency and accountability from the government. Netanyahu’s actions have sparked widespread criticism from both within and outside Israel, with many calling on him to reconsider his plans.
