New Affordable MacBook with iPhone Chip Could Launch Later This Year

A report from Taiwanese publication DigiTimes suggests that Apple may launch a new, affordable MacBook powered by the iPhone’s A18 Pro chip later this year for $600-$700. This would mark a significant step in Apple’s efforts to break into the affordable computing space.

The laptop is said to be smaller than other models, with a 12.9-inch display, and might see a downgrade in RAM compared to the current top-of-the-line MacBook Air, which features an M4 chip and 16GB of RAM. The iPhone 16 Pro, which also boasts the A18 Pro chip, has only 8GB of RAM.

While Apple’s existing laptops are popular, especially the MacBook Air, the company still lags behind competitors like Dell, HP, Lenovo in terms of market share. However, a cheaper MacBook could potentially help grow Apple’s computing market share and boost sales.

Production of this new laptop is expected to begin at the end of 2025, with availability potentially as early as later this year or early 2026.
