New Browser Company Wants Your Data for Targeted Ads

AI company Perplexity is building a new browser called Comet, and it’s not just about browsing. The CEO revealed that one of the main reasons they’re creating this browser is to collect user data for targeted ads. By gathering context outside the app, Perplexity aims to build a better user profile and show relevant ads on its discover feed. Similar to Google’s Chrome browser, Comet is built on Chromium, the open-source browser base from Google. However, there are concerns that Perplexity may acquire Chrome in the future if the current monopoly court ruling leads to its sale.
