New CBS Soap Opera Attracts Large Black Audience

A new CBS daytime soap opera, Beyond the Gates, drew a significant number of viewers during its premiere week. The show, which premiered on February 24 and is centered around Black characters, averaged 2.28 million cross-platform viewers, including three days of streaming and delayed viewing.

On CBS alone, the show attracted over 2 million viewers over three days, tying with ABC’s General Hospital in key demographics such as adults and women aged 25-54. Beyond the Gates also outperformed long-running ABC series in these demographics.

Streaming added another 272,000 viewers to the show’s average for its opening week, bringing the total audience to around 5.2 million people who watched at least a few minutes of the show. The show’s Black audience accounted for more than half of its viewers, with 55% identifying as Black during its premiere week.

Beyond the Gates has outperformed previous CBS shows in key demographics since its release, including an 78% increase over The Talk, which it replaced in the daytime lineup.
