Amtrak’s NextGen Acela will launch on August 28, connecting the Northeast Corridor between Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston with a new high-speed train service. The historic launch introduces 28 brand-new trains entering service through 2027, along with expanded weekday and weekend schedules.
The new trains offer increased seating capacity by 27% per departure, with premium onboard features such as free Wi-Fi, individual power outlets, and reading lights. Amtrak is also operating both the current Acela equipment and the NextGen Acela trains in the coming months as they transition into the fleet.
The NextGen Acela fleet was assembled in America, creating approximately 15,000 U.S. jobs. This new service is part of Amtrak’s broader fleet modernization plan, which includes new train models, more efficient locomotives, and upgraded interiors on various routes.
