New Orleans Saints coach Kellen Moore kept his commitment to quarterback Derek Carr vague during his introductory news conference on Thursday. While praising Carr’s abilities, Moore emphasized the team’s need to get cap-compliant by March 12.
Carr has a $51.4 million salary cap figure, and the Saints must address this issue as they build their roster. Moore called Carr a “tremendous starting quarterback in his league” but didn’t commit to him being the starter.
Moore’s focus is on building the team correctly and competing for the division title. He plans to call plays, utilize motion and tempo, and stress the defense. The coach has experience working with talented players like Saquon Barkley and Alvin Kamara, who signed a contract extension in the fall.
Moore also expressed his excitement about meeting new staff members and players, calling it a “collaborative effort.” He acknowledged the challenges of rebuilding the team but is confident they can compete for the division title.
