The Netflix series “Wednesday” has been a global phenomenon since its release in 2022, with season one becoming the most-watched season of English-language programming on the platform. Now, nearly three years later, the show is returning with new episodes, and fans can expect more mystery, mayhem, and a healthy dose of teenage angst.
The show takes place largely outside of the Addams Family mansion, where Wednesday’s parents are mostly absent. Instead, the focus is on Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for supernatural misfits. The school’s social scene is divided into cliques, including vampires, werewolves, sirens, and gorgons.
Wednesday, played by Jenna Ortega, is an inveterate loner who initially rejects all overtures of friendship. However, she eventually thaws and discovers allies in her roommates Enid and Eugene. The show also features a love triangle between Wednesday and two suitors, Xavier and Tyler.
The first season’s central mystery involved a series of brutal murders committed by an outcast. With the help of her Uncle Fester, Wednesday uncovered a likely culprit – a Hyde whose monstrous alter-egos are unlocked through trauma or hypnosis. However, more mysteries await the grim sleuth, including the dark history and double crosses that drove Laurel Gates to seek revenge against outcasts.
The new season promises to bring more excitement and intrigue to the show’s world of supernatural misfits. With Weems gone and the school partially destroyed, Nevermore is shuttered for the rest of the year. However, an ominous text from an unknown contact flashes on Wednesday’s phone, suggesting that more mysteries await her.
