New Study Suggests Arginine Could Be Alzheimer’s Treatment

Researchers in Japan have discovered that administering arginine, an amino acid already prescribed for high blood pressure, can suppress the buildup of amyloid-beta proteins associated with Alzheimer’s disease. In mice studies, arginine helped flush out “plaques” in the brain, improved behavior and cognitive performance, and demonstrated its safety profile. While human trials are needed to confirm the medical potential, the researchers believe arginine could be a promising candidate for treating Alzheimer’s at a low cost.
