New York Minimum Wage Set to Increase in 2025 and Beyond

New York’s minimum wage is set to rise on January 1, 2025. The state will see a 50-cent increase for most areas, bringing the hourly rate to $15.50. In NYC, Long Island, and Westchester County, the minimum wage will be adjusted to $16.50.

Tipped workers will receive these amounts after applying a tip credit. A further 50-cent hike is planned for 2026. Starting in 2027, the minimum wage will be tied to the Consumer Price Index (CPI), resulting in annual increases based on inflation rates.

Currently, New York has one of the highest minimum wages nationwide, with only two states and Washington D.C. paying more per hour. In contrast, 20 US states still adhere to the federal $7.25 minimum wage.

Workers who miss out on the updated pay can file a complaint through the New York State Department of Labor’s website or by calling 833-910-4378.
